TAKE A TROLLEY TO THE PUMPKIN PATCH AT THE FOX RIVER TROLLEY MUSEUM
Take a ride into the past through the gentle hills along the Fox River
and in Kane County’s Blackhawk Forest Preserve aboard one of the Fox River
Trolley Museum’s historic trolleys to the Pumpkin Patch at Coleman Grove.
The last two weekends of October, Oct. 18-19 and 25-26, the museum’s
trolleys head to the brightly-decorated Pumpkin Patch, past the graveyard adjacent
to Woodcliff station, on the museum’s historic trolley line, which dates back
to 1896.
“We have parents each year who wait to get one of their pumpkins with
their children at the Coleman Yard Pumpkin Patch each year,” said Bob
Bresse-Rodenkirk, event coordinator.
As the colors change around them, riders will be able to pick a pumpkin
of their very own to take home from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. all four days.
Passengers can board at both ends of the line for all trips. Trains will
leave the southerly terminal, in the picnic grove of Blackhawk Forest
Preserve, on Illinois Route 31 in St. Charles Township, from roughly 11:15 a.m. until
4:45 p.m., Bresse-Rodenkirk said.
To entertain riders, Sandy Andina will entertain children of all ages
with Halloween themed songs Oct. 18. Mad Scientist Bob Blaus will perform his
ghoulish experiments to the delight of those waiting to ride to the Pumpkin
Patch at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26, at no extra charge. The museum
encourages children to dress in their Halloween costumes, and will provide treats
for each child.
Although regular fares of $3.50 for adults and $2 for seniors and
children 3-11, there is a $1 per pumpkin charge to defray costs on Pumpkin Trolley
weekends.
The events are the last special events during the museum’s 2003 season, which concludes on Sunday, Nov. 2.
