Take the Throttle

Jacob runs AE&FRE #5 down the mainline as Ben supervises

Now you can live the fantasy of every rail fan by operating a diesel freight locomotive, an electric freight locomotive, an electric interurban, or an electric rapid transit car on the beautiful line along the Fox River and into the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve!

Under the supervision of a Museum-provided instructor, along with a Museum-provided brakeman or conductor, you will spend an hour operating on the tracks of a historic railroad that dates back to 1896. You will have full control of the locomotive/car’s whistle, throttle, and brakes for an experience that you will never forget!

This opportunity is available for only $85 per person ($65 for current museum members). A family membership (valid to the end of the year) to the Fox River Trolley Museum and a Certificate of Achievement, suitable for framing, are also included.

Participants must be at least 18 years old. Only the immediate family or sponsor will be allowed to ride on the trip. Final equipment selection will be made by the museum. All operations are subject to cancellation or rescheduling due to weather, mechanical, operational, or safety reasons. Confirmation of date will be sent by email. Please contact info@foxtrolley.org if you have any questions.
